Abstract
Particular foraging place, behaviour and food in the Little Grebe Tachybaptus ruficollis. In the world’s greatest (4.4 ha) thermal lake of the spa town Hévíz (south-east corner of the Balaton Lake, Hungary) Little Grebes are relatively tame and swim with their young without showing signs of being disturbed amongst people swimming. Additionally they forage in very small water drains into which black mud-bath flows in short intervals via another drain pipe. Without being disturbed by this effect the grebes dive here for big earthworms lying on the concrete floor of the channel. This could be observed from a distance of 1–2 m.
