Abstract
Cream-coloured Courser Cursorius cursor breeds on the Greek island of Chalki (Dodecanese). On 17 May 2013 I observed an adult Cream-coloured Courser with two young on the Greek island of Chalki (Dodecanese, Southern Aegean). There was a second adult bird in the immediate vicinity. The young birds had reached some two-thirds of the adult size and were about 20–22 days old. Hatching therefore took place in the third decade of April and egg-laying probably around the end of March or the beginning of April. The breeding site is a peninsula that juts out from the southern coast of Chalki. The peninsula is characterised by a semi-arid stone desert sparsely covered with Phrygana. This is the first breeding record for Greece and the third breeding occurrence for Europe (after Spain 2001 and 2012). The breeding site on Chalki, together with breeding occurrences in south-west Turkey and in north-eastern Iran, represents the most northerly outpost of the species’ breeding range (located between 30° and 36 °N).
