Abstract
Common Redstart Phoenicurus phoenicurus chicks hatch eight or nine days after clutch completion. Incubation in Common Redstart Phoenicurus phoenicurus normally takes 12 to 14 days. The shortest known incubation time until now was 10.5 days. The case of a Common Redstart clutch found in Dornach in northwestern Switzerland is the shortest incubation interval recorded for this species: On 2 May 2011 the clutch contained five eggs; on 5 and 9 May the female was incubating six eggs. Since Common Redstarts usually start incubating after having laid their last egg, these observations suggests that incubation started on 3 May. On 12 May all six young had already hatched and were about one to two days old. The age was confirmed when weighing the brood six days later. Therefore, at least for the last egg, incubation time was only eight or nine days.
