Abstract
Variation of the breeding density of the Woodchat Shrike Lanius senator in pastureland with Holm Oaks in Spain during 15 years. I mapped the breeding density of the Woodchat Shrike Lanius senator during seven springs between 1995 and 2009 in a study area of 40 ha in Extremadura, Western Spain. The area is part of a huge dehesa, i.e. pastureland with Holm Oaks Quercus rotundifolia. The lowest breeding density per spring was 6.5 territories/10 ha, that is about 65 % of the highest density of 10.3 territories/10 ha. No overall trend was observed, the density of 1995 was similar to that of 2009. Regarding the outstanding high density as well as the absence of a negative trend, I conclude that the population in this optimal habitat is not affected by negative influences in its core breeding area nor its wintering area.
