Abstract
Successful brood of Crested Tits Parus cristatus in a suburban area with almost no conifers at all. The Crested Tit Parus cristatus is a species strongly connected to conifers. Here I describe the observation of a successful brood of this species in a territory located in a garden in Muttenz, a village in northwestern Switzerland. The only conifer near the nest was a 6 m high pine tree hardly used for foraging by the Crested Tits. Breeding attempts in such unusual environments are very rare, the exposed case being only the second documented for Switzerland. Reasons for such exceptional breeding attempts cannot be given but perhaps the population trend of the Crested Tit had some influence since the species has significantly expanded its range in several parts of Switzerland.
