Abstract
The Ala, Swiss Society for the Study and Conservation of Birds, and its sections. The Ala, Swiss Society for the Study and Conservation of Birds, with its focus on science, is rather active at the national than at a regional level. Nevertheless, several local sections existed in particular in the first fifty years of the society’s existence. In the statutes the possibility to found new sections has gradually been reduced. Today, only the «Berner Ala» is named «section of the Ala», with a legal status of group member. It was the oldest section, founded in the first years of the existence of the Ala, and became an independent association in 1947. Through the joint management of the reserves in the Canton of Berne there remain strong links between the two societies.
