Abstract
The number of Eurasian Crag Martins Ptyonoprogne rupestris nesting on valaisian human buildings doubled from 2001 to 2008. The beginning of the breeding of the Eurasian Crag Martin on artificial sites in the Valais region has been described in several papers (Glutz von Blotzheim 2002, 2003 and 2005). As the nests of new breeding pairs are sometimes found only one or two years after their establishment, the evolution of this part of the population becomes better known from year to year. In 41 parishes the number of breeding pairs on houses has doubled within seven years (2001 to 2008) from 57 to 112 pairs. In the meantime, the new nesting performance on mostly high buildings midway of meadows rich in insects is well established, although some nests have been removed or nest sites have been made inaccessible by the owners of the buildings. People informed about the still not widespread use of houses as nest sites of Crag Martins are mostly willing or even pleased to have these birds as lodgers.
