Abstract
Zoropsis spinimana – an alien spider species from the Mediterranean region also inhabits bird nest boxes. The spider species Zoropsis spinimana from the Mediterranean region was first recorded in Switzerland in 1994 in Basel. Since then it has spread throughout the Swiss lowlands. Almost all reports come from human habitations, preferably bedrooms and bathrooms. However, this seems to be a methodological artefact, as the animals are probably not only found exclusively in the areas of settlement – first reports from bird nest boxes indicate this. The authors call on ornithologists to report sightings of the species, especially from bird nest boxes, together with photographs; this should make it clearer to what extent the species can be found far away from human habitations.
