Abstract
Post-breeding movements of the Song Thrush Turdus philomelos in the Aare plain near Solothurn. From 1983 to 2005, the post-breeding movements of the Song Thrush in the Aare plain (32 km2) near Solothurn on the Swiss Plateau were studied. The first non-breeders were observed already before mid-June (median 22 June). During the second half of the study period the first migrants were seen on average 18 days earlier than in the first half. At a small oxbow lake of 5 ha near Grenchen post-breeding movements were recorded regularly 2.5 months before the actual start of the postbreeding migration in the first decade of September. Among the first migrants singing adults were observed several times, but in July and August young birds seemed to predominate.
