Abstract
Distribution of the Tree Pipit Anthus trivialis in the canton of Glarus during the last forty years. In the spring of 2002 and 2003 an investigation on the locations of singing Tree Pipits in the Swiss canton of Glarus was made. Overall, 174 singing males could be located. They were mainly concentrated on dry meadows higher than 1000 m a.s.l. In the course of the last forty years the Tree Pipit has vanished from the lower regions. One of the reasons for it could be the earlier cutting of the grass and the lower abundance of insects in the recently improved meadows. Below 840 m a.s.l., however, the Tree Pipit has disappeared also from flower-rich meadows cultivated less intensively.
